Who's For a Slice of Cake?

Since my last blog where I mentioned my history with making cakes it has opened up a lot of conversation about them. I can't remember when my cake journey started exactly but I think it was around 2003 when I made my dad a football-themed birthday cake.

Since then I've made numerous cakes from cupcake towers, bike helmets, houses, wedding cakes and Christmas cakes. This week I felt really nervous though about making Michael's birthday cake. I just wasn't sure I could achieve it, I lacked some serious confidence. This was the first cake I had done in a while and wanted to meet my high expectations.

It got me and a friend thinking about some of the first cakes I made and how now they wouldn't make the grade. It's funny to think how far I've come. The mistakes I made along the way and dramas with transporting them.

This was so long ago that the pictures were taken on a camera with a time stamp! Remember Cameras!

With the watchful eye of my quality control adviser (my dad). He loves to pass his opinion even if it's not asked for. But I do love feedback and he has been a big help.

Thanks to my mum the babysitter so I could get on. She has always played a big part in the cakes I've made. I think this brought back a lot of memories for us both but not enough to convince us it's time to start the business up again.

The true cost of this cake is a lot and something that Michael would definitely not be getting if I didn't know how to make it myself. But I'm happy to say I do know how to do it. I can do it and shouldn't have doubted myself. I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

I'm overwhelmed by the feedback I've had so far. A friend even said it was her most favourite to date. So here it is the finished product. Michael has already seen it and was amazed and stared at it for ages. My niece kept roaring at it so I think she knew what it was haha

Here are a few of my other favourite cakes.

I had to put my wedding cake in there!

I look forward to doing a select few for friends but Cakes By Walton is definitely still closed for business. Mum in a rooooaaaarrrrrsome Mann's world.
